MANILA---Filipino chessers led by reigning Maharlika Pilipinas Chess League's Manny Pacquiao International Open Chess Festival Co-Champion International Master Rolando Nolte see action in the 14th Penang Heritage City International Chess Open 2022 slated December 19-24 at the St. Xavier's Institution in Penang, Malaysia.

“I hope to do well in the event in Penang, Malaysia,” said the 50 year old Nolte who finished in a three-way tie for first with seven points along with Russian-born Sek Konstantin and second seed Grandmaster Lucas Van Foreest of the Netherlands but settled for the bronze after tiebreaks were applied in the just ended Maharlika Pilipinas Chess League's Manny Pacquiao International Open Chess Festival held at the Family Country Hotel in General Santos City last Saturday, Dec.17.

The former University of the Manila (UM) mainstay arrived Sunday in Penang, Malaysia with International Master Ronald Bancod.
Joining Nolte in the tournament that offered a top prize of 8,000 RM (Malaysian Ringgit) were Bancod, Grandmaster Buenaventura "Bong" Villamayor and Fide Master Alekhine Nouri.

Meanwhile, National Master Leonardo Alidani will enter in the Challenger section with the champion getting the lion's share of 1,000 RM (Malaysian Ringgit).-Marlon Bernardino-
