
GM Joey' banners Metro Manila contingent in 1st FIDE Rated Chess Tournament in Alicia, Isabela

MANILA---13-time Philippine Open Champion Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. will lead the Metro Manila invasion in the 1st FIDE Rated Chess Tournament to be held on January 7-9, 2023 at the Alicia Community in Alicia, Isabela.
Antonio will be joining comrades International Master Angelo Abundo Young, International Master Cris Edgardo Ramayrat Jr., Fide Master Robert Suelo Jr., National Master Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr., Candidate Master Genghis Imperial and Ricardo Jimenez.
Also vying for the title are International Master Joel Banawa, Arena Fide Master Melizah Ruth Carreon and Jose Conde.
Others are the top 6 unrated player's qualifiers namely: Anwar Soliman Cabugatan, Alvin Aguinaldo, Lionel Cerezo, Lordwin Espiritu, Servillano Obaña and Nicanor Marinduque.
Aside from the title, the 1st FIDE Rated Chess Tournament organized by Isabela Chess Club Inc. (ICCI), affiliated by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) offers a trophy and certificate plus P15,000 plus prize to the top winner.
The second placer will get P7,000 plus trophy and certificate, third P5,000 plus trophy and certificate, fourth P3,000 plus trophy and certificate and fifth P2,000 plus trophy and certificate.
Sixth to Tenth Placers will earn P1,000 trophy and certificate.
It is a seven round Swiss system format, 90 Minutes plus 30 seconds increment.
The event is supported by Mr. Eduardo Aradanas of Las Vegas, Nevada, Engr. Pepito Castellanes of Denver Colorado, Engr. Amor Simplina of Managua, Nicaragua, Engr. Arthur Simplina of Dublin , Ohio and Mayor Atty. Joel Amos P. Alejandro , CPA of Alicia, Isabela.
