WBO bantamweight champion Gerry Penalosa?s prot?g?, featherweight Michael Farenas has dropped Speedy Gonzales in a sparring session at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles which preparing for a scheduled fight on May 17 in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

Penalosa said Gonzales is one of trainer Freddie Roach?s fighters and at one time was being considered as a sparring partner for Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao when Pacquiao was training for the WBC super featherweight title fight against Juan Manuel Marquez.

In his last fight in the US, Farenas scored a third round KO over Baudel Cardenas on the undercard of the Pacquiao-Marquez rematch at the andalay Bay Resort Hotel and Casino last March 15.

According to Penalosa, Cardenas is scheduled to see action on the undercard of Top Rank promoter Bob Arum?s ?Latin Fury? fight card featuring Joirge Arce vs Thailand ?s Devid Lookmahanak but that as of Monday agent Michael Koncz hadn?t told him who Farenas? opponent was which worried Penalosa.

Farenas has a record of 20-2-2 with 18 knockouts and is regarded as one among many fine young Filipino prospects.
