International Master Michael "Jako" Concio Jr. strikes again in GMG Chess tourney

MANILA---International Master Michael "Jako" Concio Jr. of Dasmariñas City, Cavite, a consistent winner of the online tournaments, stamped his class again by topping the GMG Chess Monthly Nov 2022 Arena held at the Lichess Platform last Nov. 30.
The 17-year-old Concio, a Grade 12 student of Dasmariñas Integrated High School, finished with 75 points in 22 games for a win rate of 82 percent and performance rating of 2740 to win the event backed up by Coach Gerald Ferriol.

The online tournament had time control of three minutes and players must win as many games in one and half hours of play, Ferriol told.

Concio, playing under the guidance of Rep. Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga, Mayor Jenny Barzaga, National Coach Fide Master Roel Abelgas, Martin Meneses and Papadu Sportswear, receive the P1,500 top purse for his efforts.

Concio is fresh from a magnificent performance in the Asian Junior Chess Championship held recently in Tagaytay City.

Concio won gold in the Rapid Under-18 and Standard Under-18 and got silver medal in the Standard Under-20.

National Master Mark Jay Bacojo of Dasmariñas City, Cavite took the second spot with 63 points on 23 games and a win rate of 70 percent for a performance rating of 2579 and the P1,000 second place prize.

In third place is Christian Mendoza of Antipolo City who had 53 points to receive P500.

Rounding up the top 10 were Anju Bansal (fourth), Anatoly Pascua (fifth), Jonathan Jota (sixth), Vignesh B (seventh), Sergey Volkov (eight), Jonathan Tan (ninth) and NM Noel Dela Cruz (tenth).

Adjudged category winners were Marvin Arendain (top kiddie), Nephira Marilag (top women), Gary Legapsi (top senior) and Ronnie Villa (top PWD).

Meanwhile, the 3rd GMG Chess Monthly tournament won by Tiger with 4.5 points, followed by James (4.0 points) and Bill (3.5 points).-Marlon Bernardino-
