MANILA---Laguna Heroes scored victory in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) online chess tournament virtually held at Chess.com Platform on Saturday night.

The Laguna Heroes barely escaped Rizal Batch Towers in the blitz game, 4-3, on victories by two-time Asian Junior Champion Grandmaster Rogelio "Banjo" Barcenilla Jr., Arena Candidate Master Michella Concio and Richie Jocson and draws by Fide Master Roel Abelgas and International Master elect and Fide Master Jose Efren Bagamasbad.

Barcenilla nipped IM Richelieu Salcedo III, Concio subdued Kelly Ann David Salcedo, Jocson crushed John Paul Aquino, Abelgas split the points with NM Noel Dela Cruz and Bagamasbad drew with NM Elias Lao.

Phillip Simon Din and Gerone Anore carry the good fight for Rizal by beating Laguna's Christian Nanola and AGM Kimuel Aaron Lorenzo, respectively.

"We had an exciting match against Rizal. It was a close match. This is a good motivation for the team as we approach the quarterfinals against Isabela," said Concio, playing assistant coach of Laguna Heroes.

However, Laguna Heroes, backed up by Mr. David Nithyananthan of KALARO and Greatech Philippines, Inc., Engr. Billy Joe Ereňo of Costbusters Philippines Corp., Engr. Benjamin Dy of SDC Global Choice Foods and AGM Dr. Fred Paez of Jolly Smile Dental Clinic and St. Peregrine Dental Clinic toppled Rizal Batch Towers in the rapid match,8-6, behind triumphs by Concio, Arena Lorenzo and Apollo Agapay and draws by Barcenilla and Abelgas.

The Laguna Heroes secured the third place honors in the Northern division elimination round.
