Boxing aficionados call it a knockout.
MMA and S&M connoisseurs might even describe it as a tap-out via rear naked choke hold.
Call it what you like, but as my friend and fellow hoops scribe and RT Tom Macasaet would say, it was a shellacking from start to finish.
The Golden State Warriors have begun to look like the defending NBA champions they are, as they turned Target Center into a firing range and the Minnesota Timberwolves into target practice, 137-114, Sunday.
The Warriors got their second road win while ending Minnesota’s five-game winning streak.
It was a Festival of treys as the Warriors connected 20/47 three-pointers (42.6%), and the Timberwolves fired 14/35 shots (40%) beyond the outer arc.
Draymond showcased his trademark ‘Green Screen’ as he punched his first double-double of the season with a season-high 19 points and 11 assists. He also joined the 3-PT party by sinking one of his own.
It was a scoring clinic by the Warriors— Curry scored 25, Poole 24, Thompson 21, Draymond Green 19, and Wiggins 17 points, respectively.
GSW’s defense was on point while grabbing 47 rebounds to the ‘Wolves 31, and out blocking the Wolves, 6-2.
Despite the Warriors leading by as much as 28 points, the game had the competitive feeling as the Timberwolves perimeter threat was clicking—point guard and former Warrior D’Angelo Russell scored 15 points to complement Anthony Edwards’ 26, Karl-Anthony Towns’ 21, Jaylen Nowell’s 16 respective points.
The Wolve’s three-pointed arsenal was on display all night which forced Poole, Thompson and Curry to increase their lead with threes late in the fourth quarter.
All told, Golden State scored 57.5% FG and converted 50 of 87 tries. Minnesota, on the other hand, shot 44.3% FG and sank 39/88 baskets.
