MANILA---Cavite based National Master Eric Idio Labog Jr. will head to Tagaytay with hopes of improving his world ranking aside from getting GM/IM norm and bringing more honors for the country.

Acapulco, fondly called Eric in the chess world will see action at the Asian Juniors and Girls Chess Championships will be held on Nov. 17-26 at the Knights Templar Hotel in Tagaytay City.

"I hope to do well in this tough and prestigious event," said the 19-year-old Labog, a freshman student at Immaculada Concepcion College who topped the Under-20 division of GMG Chess Tour online chess tournament last Sept. 30.

Tagaytay Mayor Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, president of the Philippine Olympic Committee and International Chess Federation honorary member, said the event is open to players aged 20 and below.

Players from 52 member nations of the Asian Chess Federation have been invited to participate, with entries from India, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Iran, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore among the favorites.

The tournament will be a 9-round Swiss system.
