Frayna, Galas to grace Marinduque Chess

MANILA--The 1st Governor's Chess Cup 2022 gets underway on Nov. 12, Saturday, with Woman Grandmaster Janelle Mae Frayna and Woman International Master Bernadette Galas gracing the opening ceremonies.

The MSC Gymnasium in Tanza, Boac, Marinduque serves as the venue of the one-day rapid chess tournament.

Frayna and Galas are expected to deliver their inspirational messages to the participants of the one-day affair, backed up by Bahay sa Kanto Cafe, LGB ECBS, Inc., Green Metro Builders & Dev't Corp., Constructionline, Inc. , Marinduque State College, sanctioned by National Chess Federation of the Philippines and organized by Boac Knight Chess Club, Inc.

"I am truly happy since chess is now becoming popular in my home province. Led by Engr. Lauro Bautista & his very supportive wife Rona, together with, Event Coordinator Giovanni Buhain, Boac Knight Chess Club, Inc. is indeed ambitious in developing chess in the entire province. With regular chess programs and support of Gov. Presby Velasco & Cong. Lord Allan Velasco, Marinduque can produce FIDE Master and International Masters in 3 years," said AGM Dr. Fred Paez, (Marinduque Chess Champion in 1986), President of Philippine Executive Chess Association & Assistant Executive Director of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines for South Luzon.

The tournament is open to all bonafide residents of Marinduque and offers P6,000 to the Open champion while P5,000 each to the winners in the kiddies, senior and women's class.
