Filipino Fide Master Alekhine Fabiosa Nouri wins in Round 8

SARDINIA, ITALY--Filipino Fide Master Alekhine Fabiosa Nouri (Elo 2251) leaned on his endgame creativity to claw his way to victory Wednesday in the 8th round of the World Junior Chess Championship 2022 Open U-20 here at the Palmasera Village Resort, Cala Gonone of the municipality of Dorgali, Province of Nuoro, in the region of Sardinia.
Nouri sacrificed his pawn in d5 to take an early positional edge with the black pieces, then watched Enzo Tripodi (Elo 2113) of Italy implode to carve out a 48-move win in their Sicilian Defense encounter.
The Escalante City native Nouri who is currently based in City of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan now has 4.0 points on account of two wins, four draws and two loses.
The 16-year-old Nouri, a Grade 10 student of La Concepcion College, City of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan is aiming for his first International Master norm whose European chess campaign is being supported by Iloilo Kisela Knights Team Owner Leo Sotaridona, (BAVI) President & General Manager Ronald Daniel Ricaforte Mascariñas, Buena Viel Construction and Project Management top honcho Engr. Neri Javier Colmenares and NCFP Vice President for Mindanao Sen. Manny Pacquiao.
Meanwhile Woman National Master Mhage Gerriahlou F. Sebastian (Elo 1865) defeated Woman Fide Master Sarah Djidjeli (Elo 2082) of France after of 45 moves Sicilian defense to raise her total to 4.5 points on four wins, one draw and three loses in the Girls Under 20 division.
The PH chess campaign was made possible with the support of National Chess Federation of the Philippines chairman/president Prospero "Butch" Arreza Pichay Jr., NCFP CEO GM Jayson O. Gonzales, Philippine Sports Commission led by chairman Jose Emmanuel "Noli" M. Eala, commissioner Olivia "Bong" Coo and executive director Atty. Guillermo B. Iroy Jr., Philippine Olympic Committee president and Tagaytay city mayor Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino Jr. the office of Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary for European Affairs Jaime Victor B. Ledda and Fide delegate Casto "Toti" Abundo of the Asian Chess Federation.
Nouri and Sebastian are joined in Italy by National Master Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr. and Susan Grace Tana Neri, who serve as their coaches.
