SARDINIA, ITALY---Bong Anas of Iloilo City and National Master Zulfikar Sali of Zamboanga City defeated their last round assignments to share the top honors at the conclusion of the 2022 National Executive Chess Championship -South Luzon leg, Sunday at the Vista Mall, Tagaytay-Sta. Rosa Road, Brgy. Don Jose in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna.
Anas, a Senior Assistant Manager-Internal Audit Center at Philippine Business Bank toppled Freddie Talaboc while Sali, a Senior Emergency Nurse at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria BC, Canada and Proprietor & CEO of Sahaya Dermatology Clinic trounced Jefferson Pascua.
With the win, Anas and Sali, both finished 5.0 points apiece in six outings in this 1 day event backed up by Vista Mall - Sta Rosa, Rotary Club of Nuvali, City of Sta. Rosa, Chooks-to-Go, Macolor Semicon Tooling and Fabrication, organized by Philippine Executive Chess Association-PECA president Dr. Fred Paez.
Arjoe Loanzon of Cavite City, a Licensed Electronics and Communications Engineer subdued Lloyd Lanciola to finish solo third with 4.5 points.
Rounding up to the top nine (9) with 4.0 points each are Lanciola (fourth), Talaboc (fifth), Bren Sasot (sixth), Florel Cruz (seventh), Arvin Betonio (eight) and Pascua (ninth).
National Master Robert Arellano came tenth place with 3.5 points.
Adjudged category winners were Cruz (Top Senior), Sasot (Top Unrated), Betonio (Top 1800) Pascua (Top 1900) and Michella Concio (Top Lady).-Marlon Bernardino-
