World Junior Chess Championship: Nouri draws 5th round game; still on track for IM norm

SARDINIA, ITALY---Filipino Fide Master (FM) Alekhine Fabiosa Nouri is still on track to earn his first International Master (IM) norm in the World Junior Chess Championship 2022 at the Club Esse Palmasera Resort in Cala Gonone in Sardinia, Italy here.
The 79th seed Nouri (Elo 2251) halved the point with 33rd seed Antoni Kozak (Elo 2440) of Poland in 56 moves of Caro-kann defense in Saturday's fifth round.
He now has with 2.5 points on account of one win, three draws and a loss in five outings in the Open Under 20 division.
“I hope to continue the momentum I've got,” said the 16-year-old Nouri, a native of Escalante City, Negros Occidental, whose European chess campaign is being supported by Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose "Bong" Villareal Lacson, Provincial Sports Coordinator Anthony Carlo Agustin, Senator Mark Villar, Bounty Agro Ventures, Inc. (BAVI) President & General Manager Ronald Daniel Ricaforte Mascariñas, Buena Viel Construction and Project Management top honcho Engr. Jojo Buenaventura, City of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan mayor Arthur Robes, NCFP Vice President for Visayas Rep. Neri Javier Colmenares and NCFP Vice President for Mindanao Sen. Manny Pacquiao.
Meanwhile, Woman National Master Mhage Gerriahlou F. Sebastian (Elo 1865) defeated Woman Fide Master Gabija Simkunaite (Elo 2014) of Lithuania in 34 moves of Sicilian Defense, Rossolimo variation to raise her total to 3.0 points on 3 wins and 2 loses in the Girls Under 20 division.
The PH chess campain was made possible with the support of National Chess Federation of the Philippines chairman/president Prospero "Butch" Arreza Pichay Jr., NCFP CEO GM Jayson O.
