Nouri, Gaticales to grace Araneta chess tourney

MANILA---Fide Master Alekhine "Bbking" Nouri and National Chess Federation of the Philippines board of director Martin "Binky" Gaticales will grace the start of Araneta City Open Chess Tournament on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at the Ali Mall Activity Area, Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City.
Organizers said the event aims is to promote the board games especially among the youth while facilitating the development of the talented enthusiasts' skills and confidence.
The free registration event is a seven-round Swiss system tournament offers P10,000 to the champion. The registration start from 10am to 11am to join the tournament, first come, first served.
The Swiss system, which pairs players with similar scores, has been the leading format in chess tournaments since the 1940s.
In June 2013, during the 14th ASEAN Age Group Chess Championships 2013 in Thailand, Nouri claimed an outright Fide Master title with his victory in the Open 8-under category, thus making him as the youngest Filipino FIDE Master and the then youngest FIDE Master in the world at the age of seven.
Accompanied by his guardian/coach Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr.who is also a certified National Master and United States chess master, fondly called Bbking in the chess world will see action at the World Juniors Under 20 Chess Championships on October 11-23, 2022 in Sardinia, Italy.
Nouri is also scheduled to represent the country in the 33ste Open van Leuven on November 10-13 in Leuven, Belgium, the Grand Memorial Rene Vannerom on December 2-3 in Brussels, Belgium, the IX Sunway Sitges International Chess Festival on December 11-22 in Sitges, Barcelona, Spain and the Basel Christmas Chess Festival on December 26 -30 in Basel,Switzerland.
