Elorta wins Kamatyas Invitational Rapid Tournament

3rd: GM John Paul Gomez (7.0 points, P7,000 plus trophy)
4th: IM Ronald Dableo (7.0 points, P5,000 plus medal)
5th: Narquingel Reyes (7.0 points, P2,000 plus medal)
6th: IM Michael Concio Jr. (7.0 points, P2,000 plus medal)
7th: FM Narquingden Reyes (6.5 points, P2,000 plus medal)
8th: FM Alekhine Nouri (6.5 points, P2,000 plus medal)

MANILA---National Master David Elorta scored 1.5 points in the last two rounds to emerge as the overall champion in the just concluded Kamatyas Fide Rated Invitational Rapid Tournament 4th Edition held here at the SM Sucat Building B in Paranaque City on Saturday (August 20, 2022).

Elorta, a habitue of Tarrash Knight Chess Club at Guadalupe Mall in Makati City, defeated Fide Master Narquingden "Arden" Reyes in the 8th and penultimate round then halved the point with Narquingel "Archie" Reyes in the ninth and final round to finish with eight points on account of seven wins and two draws in the tough, nine-round tournament organized by International Master Roderick Nava of Kamatyas Chess Club and sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) headed by it’s president/ chairman Prospero “Butch” Pichay Jr. and sponsored businessman/sportsman David Almirol Jr. of Multysis Technologies Corporations.

Elorta, dubbed as Haring David in the chess world, opened his campaign in sizzling fashion, by beating Francis Talaboc in the first round, National Master Prince Mark Aquino in the second round, Johann Cedrick Gaddi in the third round, Fide Master Roel Abelgas in the fourth round, International Master Ronald Dableo in the fifth round and International Master Ricardo De Guzman in the sixth round then split the point with Grandmaster John Paul Gomez in the seventh round.

International Master Roderick Nava of Kamatyas Chess Club awarded the P30,000 top prize to Elorta.

Five players –Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr., Grandmaster John Paul Gomez, International Master Ronald Dableo, Narquingel Reyes and International Master Michael Concio Jr.– shared second to sixth places with 7.0 points.

Sharing the limelight were Fide Master Narquingden Reyes, Fide Master Alekhine Nouri, International Master Chito Garma and Fide Master Nelson "Elo" Mariano III shared seventh to 10th places with 6.5 points.-Marlon Bernardino-
