Estrellado tops Taytay chess tourney

MANILA---Kenneth Gene Estrellado shone in the Cheuk Wai Lo Individual Chess Tournament last Sunday, July 31, 2022 at the Taytay Chess Club in Taytay, Rizal Province.

Estrellado finished the six-round Swiss system tournament with five points on account of four wins and two draws.

Fide Master Christopher Castellano and National Master Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr. came in second and third with 4.5 points apiece.

In the last round, Estrellado smashed Mark Joseph Barbosa, Castellano edged Greatman Castellano while Bernardino outpointed Emmanuel Barbosa.

"We would like to thank to Mr. Cheuk Wai Lo for inviting us to play in his mini chess tournament," said Bernardino, an incoming chess coach of Rizal Technological University Mandaluyong City chess team under the guidance of RTU President Dr. Eugenia M. Yangco and Sports Development and Wellness Center Sports Director Manny Dayawon.

Bernardino, an employee of Philippine Racing Commission (PIHILRACOM) under the leadership of it's chairman Reli de leon is fresh from winning the first ever Avocadoria FIDE Rated Rapid Chess Tournament held at the Avocadoria Rainbow, Marikina City last Friday, July 29, 2022.

Completing the top 16 woodpushers of the free registration, free food tournament were Greatman Castellano (4.0), Philip Iglopas (4.0), Mrk Joseph Barbosa (3.5), Emmanuel Barbosa (3.0), Mc Kertzee Gelua (3.0), Charls Marcellano (3.0), Noel Jay Estacio (3.0), Elizsa Gayle Cafirma (3.0), Sunny Lo (2.0), Christian Dolores (2.0), Elize Caryl Cafirma (2.0), Kurt Marcellano (1.0) and Myco Miranda (1.0).-Marlon Bernardino-
