Pampanga's Young Chess Masters dominate 2022 National Age Group Chess Championships-Grand Finals

MANILA---PAMPANGA woodpushers made their presence felt in the 2022 National Age Group Chess Championships-Grand Finals held from July 19 to 24, 2022 at the Robinsons Place, Malolos, Bulacan, hosted by Mayor Christian "Agila" Natividad.
They were so dominant in all fronts of battle with National Master Oshrie Jhames Reyes of Santa Rita, Pampanga lording it over in the Under-12 Open category with Woman National Master April Joy Claros of Angeles City, Pampanga topping the Under-16 Girls division and Woman National Master Lexie Grace Hernandez of Candaba, Pampanga prevailing in the Under-18 Girls bracket.
The triumvirate will represent the country in the Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championships in Bangkok, Thailand.
In an awesome display of chess prowess with chess prodigy NM Reyes beat Pat Ferdolf Macabulos of Bataan in the eleventh and final round and edged National Master Al Basher "Basty" Buto of Cainta, Rizal in the tie break points to win the gold medal in the Under-12 Open category.
The 11-year-old Reyes, a grade 5 pupil of Ezee, Guagua and incoming grade 6 student of Santa Rita College collected 9.0 points on account of 8 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss, the same output of NM Buto whom he beat in the tie break points.
The 15-year-old Claros, a grade 10 student of FEU Diliman halved the point with Angel Nheazy Nicol Po of Imus, Cavite in the final canto to bring home the gold medal in the Under-16 Girls division with 9.5 points.
The 16-year-old Hernandez, an incoming grade 11 Senior High School student of National University, meantime defeated Prince Louise Oncita of Pasig City in the last round to win the gold medal in the Under-18 Girls category with 10.0 points, full point ahead with runner-up place Woman National Master Mhage Gerriahlou Sebastian of Apayao and third placer Woman National Master Rinoa Mariel Sadey of Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija who both notch 9.0 points apiece.
Pampanga Chess Godfather and Bayanihan Chess Club board of director Jaime "Jimmy" Reyes had something to say to the Pampanga's Young Chess Masters.
"Congrats To our very own chess national master NM Oshrie Jhames Constantino Reyes for winning the crown in the recently concluded today (Sunday) National Age Group Chess Grand Finals ( under 12 open category).
"After excruciating but exciting week, July 19-24, held at Robinson’s place, Malolos Bulacan, 1-5 hrs per game, fighting bravely with all your heart with deep focus and concentration , finally you made it ! You earned your ticket to Thailand to represent our dear country in the upcoming Eastern age group chess championship.
"All contenders from all parts of the Philippines archipelago are all competitive! One mistake and surely loss , no room for any mistakes.
"Also I would like to congratulate our very own young Pampangas pride, Chess National Masters WNM Lexie Hernandez and WNM April Joy Villapaña Claros for winning the crown as well in their respective age group category.
"We are so proud of all your accomplishments. It’s a great pride for our Balen Kapampangan."
