
WORLD GAMES: PH bet Carlo Biado reaches semis

MANILA---Defending champion Filipino Carlo Biado overcame a small deficit to edge out Austria's Albin Ouschan, 11-7, Saturday and reached the men’s 9-ball singles semifinals of the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama, USA.
Biado, who got a big applause from the local crowd, prevailed over his Austrian opponent despite having to climb back from a 4-6 deficit during their quarterfinal match held at the Sheraton Ballroom.
The 38-year-old San Juan, La Union native Biado assured himself of a bronze medal but will look to move one step closer towards his second gold.
He won the gold back in the 2017 Wroclaw, Poland, ruling the men’s 9-ball singles, the country’s first gold medal at the World Games, a competition in sports played widely worldwide but aren’t on the Olympic program.
The reigning US Open champion and SEA Games gold medalist will next face Joshua Filler of Germany for a place in the finals.
Filler eliminated world No.1 Shane Van Boening of the U.S., 11-3 in another quarterfinal match. The tournament carries a race-to-11 alternate break format.
In the distaff side, Filipina Rubilen Amit cruised through to the quarterfinals after a come from behind victory over Germany's Pia Filler, 9-8, in the Round-of-16.-Marlon Bernardino-
