CONDES LAWYERS TERMINATE BOSTICK CONTRACT

Name-dropping hasn?t worked. A supposed partner of Bobby Bostick identified as a certain Nelson Lopez ? reportedly a Hispanic US citizen had tried the name-dropping tactic to get the handlers of IBF minimum weight champion Florante Condes to meet with the Bostick group claiming his wife?s sister, not his wife as earlier reported, worked in Malacanang.

But the ploy didn?t work as Condes? lawyers headed by Atty. Edgar Padernal ignored his statement and served formal notice rescinding the Exclusive Promotional Rights Agreement of January 5, 2007 with Bostick citing several grounds.

Padernal cited Bobby Bostick Promotions commitment ?to secure and promote not less than three fights per year or a total of nine fights in the three year period of the Agreements; and in case of a purse bid, BBP shall bid in good faith and excert its best efforts to win the bid.?

The lawyer claimed that ?in material breach of the aforesaid stipulations, BBP unjustifiably failed to secure and promote a fight for our client (Condes) since the signing of the Agreements.? The rescission letter also stated that BBP ?likewise did not exert efforts to negotiate the terms and conditions of the fight of Condes with Raul Garcia and neither did BBP participate in the International Boxing Federation (IBF) purse bids for the Muhammad Rachman and Garcia fights.?

The lawyer?s letter claimed that ?the breaches are incurable because BBP could no longer possibly promote at this point in time the stipulated six fights for the years 2007 and 2008? and as a result their client (Condes) is ?rescinding or terminating the Agreements effective upon receipt of this letter? which was dated April 22, 2008.

He aunt of Condes, Ms. Loy Valencia, her husband Larry and Atty. Padernal met with the Bostick group including lawyer Steven Bessette for some six hours Saturday in a meeting she described as ?very exhausting? although they agreed to a final meeting on Monday night.

However, Ms. Valencia said they had decided to be ?firm with our decision.? She told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that Bostick?s people wanted to meet with Condes but she turned the request down since he is busy training for the mandatory title defense against Garcia, at the ALA Gym in Cebu City and couldnot be disturbed.

At the same time the Condes handlers flatly rejected a proposal that Condes relinquish his title and instead fight Rachman, the Indonesian champion from whom Condes won the title last July 7, in a fight Bostick would promote in Manila.

The Condes camp answered with a flat ?No? stating that Condes will go through with his commitment to defend his title in a Paz, Mexico against Garcia on June 14.
