Vice Champion of Malaysia to play WFM Lomibao-Beltran Rapid Open Chess Championship

MANILA---Woman Candidate Master Jia-Tien Chua of Malaysia will spearhead a strong cast clashing in the Woman Fide Master Sheerie Joy Lomibao-Beltran Rapid Open Chess Championship that gets underway on Sunday, July 10, 8am at the 2nd floor Open Kitchen Foodhall, Rockwell Business Center, Sheridan Street (infront of UNILAB) in Mandaluyong City (Greenfield District).

Jia-Tien Chua , who made history as the Malaysia's Vice Champion, loom as the player to beat in the said event owing to her impressive performance in the past.

Also in the list of participants are 13-time Philippine Open Champion GM Rogelio "Joey" Antonio, Jr., GM Darwin Laylo, GM candidate/ IM Ronald Dableo, IM Daniel Quizon, IM Michael Concio Jr., IM Jan Emmanuel Garcia, IM Ricardo de Guzman, IM Angelo Young, IM Barlo Nadera, IM Chito Garma and WIM Kylen Joy Mordido.

"Words don't even describe how excited I am to be playing for Woman Fide Master Sheerie Joy Lomibao-Beltran Rapid Open Chess Championship," said Laylo, part of the Coaching staff of Dasmarinas chess team under the guidance of Rep. Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga Jr. and national coach Fide Master Roel Abelgas.

"A privilege and an honour and I'll do my very best," last word of Laylo, one of the mainstay of Philippine Army chess team.

"The event is the biggest national over the board chess event in the country. This is indeed a big help for the promotion of chess. I would like to really thank my good friend, Olympian Woman Fide Master Sheerie Joy Lomibao-Beltran for sponsoring this event in cooperation with Ms. China Aurelio and Ms. Mimi Casas of Open Kitchen," said veteran radio commentator/sportswriter National Master Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr., who is also the founding president of the organizing Bayanihan Chess Club.

At stake in the prestigious tournament sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) is a guaranteed prize worth P110,000 with the champion getting the lion’s share of P10,000 plus a trophy and iPhone mobile phone. The second placer will get P7,000 plus medal, third placer will receive P5,000 plus medal, fourth placer will bring home P3,000 plus medal while the fifth placer will pocket P2,000 plus medal.

Sixth to 10th placers will go home P1,000 each plus a medals while 11th to 20th placers will take P500 each.

Fossil Watches plus P1,000 each awaits for the category winners top media, top PWD, top Kiddy (14 years old and below), top Junior (16 years old and below), top Senior (50 and above), top Non Master and top Executive while Tablets for top 8 years old and below boys and girls.-Marlon Bernardino-
