
Laguna scores twin victories as WIM Fisabilillah makes debut

MANILA---Laguna Heroes scored twin victories in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) online chess tournament virtually held at Chess.com Platform on Saturday night.
The Heroes started things off with a 14.5-6.5 triumph over Camarines-Iriga and followed it up with a 13.5-7.5 win over Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental Chess Association to raise their record to 10-7.
The Heroes barely escaped Camarines-Iriga in the blitz game, 4.5-2.5, on victories by two-time Asian Junior Champion Grandmaster Rogelio "Banjo" Barcenilla Jr., Fide Master Austin Jacob Literatus, Woman International Master Ummi Fisabilillah, Arena Grandmaster Kimuel Aaron Lorenzo and draws by Christian Nanola.
However, Laguna toppled Camarines-Iriga in the rapid match,10-4, behind triumphs by Barcenilla, Fisabilillah, Fide Master Jose Efren Bagamasbad, Lorenzo and draws by Nanola.
Against Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental Chess Association, Laguna forced a deadlock in the blitz play,3.5-3.5, but ruled the rapid event, 10-4.
"We got a new lady import, WIM Ummi Fisabilillahh of Indonesia. She's a substitute for WIM Chelsie Monica Sihite while she is doing a coverage of the FIDE Candidates," said said Arena Grandmaster Dr. Fred Paez of Jolly Smile Dental Clinic, one of the four co-team owner of the Laguna Heroes that include Mr. David Nithyananthan of KALARO and Greatech Philippines, Inc., Engr. Benjamin Dy of SDC Global Choice Foods and Engr. Antonio Balinas of AC Balinas Construction and Steel Works.
