
PH wins 3 golds, 1 silver medals at Asian Online Chess Championships for Players with Disabilities

MANILA---The Philippines won three gold medals and one silver medal at the Asian Online Chess Championships for Players with Disabilities held from May 27 to 29, 2022 at Tornelo Platform.
National Master Jasper Rom (4.5/5), National Master Menandro Redor (4.5/5) and Cheryl Angot (4.5/5) were among the Filipino woodpushers who won gold medals in their respective division.
Rom topped the Physically Impaired Open Category, Redor dominated the Visually Impaired Open Category while Angot took the Physically Impaired Women Category.
Cheyzer Crystal Mendoza (4/5), on the other hand settled for runner-up place and got the silver medal in the Physically Impaired Women Category.
National Coach National Master James Infiesto congratulated the National Paralympic chess team for again prevailing in such a highly-competitive Asian Online Chess Championships for Players with Disabilities.
''It brings us great joy and pride that this recent haul of medals in the extremely difficult Asian Online Chess Championships for Players with Disabilities signifies the continuous improvement of our woodpushers in chess game. We can be optimistic that in the coming years, our performance will only get better,'' Infiesto said.
''We are committed to maintain this winning tradition through various support programs as we recognize these chessers' key roles in bolstering our Philippine chess. We surely welcome them and their gifts in the chess game and hope that they take part in motivating others in joining us as well," he added.-Marlon Bernardino-
