
Chess prodigy Arca wins Kiddies 14 under tournament

MANILA---Christian Gian Karlo Arca, the country’s youngest Arena Grandmaster (AGM) at 11 years old, conquered the Mayor APSU Cup kiddies 14 under chess tournament held at the Mantangale Alibuag Dive Resort, Balingoan, Misamis, Oriental last Thursday, May 26, 2022.
The pride of Panabo City, Davao Del Norte, racked up 5.5 points on account of 5 wins and 1 draw in this event organized by LGU Balingoan and Balingoan chess club.
"It’s hard to explain what I’m feeling right now. Winning the Mayor APSU Cup kiddies 14 under chess tournament meant so much to me,” said Arca, whose local and international campaign is supported by Atty. Jong Guevarra.
“I’m really happy,” added National Master (NM) Arca, who won this over the board chess tilt that had a time control format of 15 minutes plus 5 seconds increment.
Acra scored victories over John Chon Tambeling in the first round, Quarl Maverick Vera Cruz in the second round, Ruelle Canino in the third round, Lyn Getubig in the fourth round, Kyla Dalagan in the fifth round before settling a draw with Keith Adriane Ilar in the sixth and final round.
Arca who is fresh manning the board 1 of Panabo City chess team who settled for a strong runner-up place in NM Zulfikar Aliakbar Sali 2022 Inter-Cities & Municipalities Chess Team Championship was held last May 22, 2022 at the SM City Mindpro, Zamboanga City.
The 13-year-old Arca, a Grade 7 STE - Section Universe pupil of Panabo City National High School next tournament are xthe NAGCC Semi Final U14 Open (May 28-29, 2022) played via online Tornelo platform and the CDO Tatluhan Team Tournament on June 4-5, 2022.-Marlon Bernardino-
