
Ligon-San Jose City chessers top inter-cities tournament

MANILA---Ligon-San Jose City chessers defeated Panabo City, 2-1, 1.5-1.5, in the 2 game final to capture the crown in the NM Zulfikar Aliakbar Sali 2022 Inter-Cities & Municipalities Chess Team Championship at the SM City Mindpro, Zamboanga City Sunday, May 22, 2022.
In the 1st match, Sherwin Tiu halved the point with National Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca, Vince Duane Pascual humbled Samson Chiu Chin Lim III and Jan Francis Mirano split the point with Jayson Salubre.
However, in the 2nd match, all boards ended in fighting draws allowing Ligon-San Jose City to go home with the championship trophy plus the top prize of P50,000 in the 2 day (May 21 and 22, 2022) tournament sponsored by NM Zulfikar Sali - PCAP Director & Team owner of Zamboanga Sultans and Dr. Vangie Espiritu-Sali of Sahaya Dermatology Clinic in Zamboanga City in partnership with the SM Mindpro ZC, GrenEnergy Power, Ms. Ruby Chua, Mind Movers.Ph Chess Club, and Sir Christian Arrieta of Malasakit at Bayanihan Party list.
Tournament Director is Joselito Dormitorio while Chief Arbiter is NA Lorenzo P. Cuizon,Jr. assisted by Deputy Chief Arbiter NA Ajir M. Radjani.
Panabo City, backed up by NM Henry Roger Lopez pocketed the runner-up purse of P30,000.
Manila headed by Ryan Dungca, Jerry Areque and Paul Sanchez came third and got P20,000 while Zamboanga City spearheaded by NM Joey Albert Florendo, Patrick Erle Florendo and John Cyrus Borce settled for fourth and received P15,000.
Rounding up to the 10 were fifth Pagadian City, sixth Lapu-Lapu City, seventh Bulacan, eight Toledo City, ninth Cebu and tenth Ligon-San Jose City Team B.
Ligon-San Jose City Team B is composed of Fide Master Nelson Villanueva, Francis Ligon and Allen Mirano.-Marlon Bernardino-
