MANILA---The Philippine chess team in men and women won the silver and bronze medal in Rapid event respectively in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Quang Ninh, Vietnam on Thursday.
Philippine Men's Team bannered by GM Darwin Laylo and IM Paulo Bersamina just won silver medal while WGM Janelle Mae Frayna and WIM Marie Antoinette San Diego brought bronze medals.

"Ironically if not coincidentally that today, it is the luck of the birthday celebrant WGM Janelle Mae Frayna that brings the good fortune to the squad which one may say, however, the team is more inclined to believe that it was divine fate and destiny that prevails at this point in time," said National Coach Grandmaster Jayson Gonzales.

"And, tomorrow, and the day after, there will be four gold medals at stake in the blitz individual and blitz team event," he added.
IM Daniel Quizon and IM Paulo Bersamina will be seeing in action in the blitz individual event (Men's Division) while WGM Janelle Mae Frayna and WFM Shania Mae Mendoza our top bets in the blitz individual event (Women's Division).

Quizon will team up with IM Jan Emmanuel Garcia in the Blitz Team Event while Frayna partner with WFM Shania Mae Mendoza in the distaff side.-Marlon Bernardino-
