NECK goes into quarters

MANILA---The team from Nueva Ecija Province named Nueva Ecija Chess Knights (NECK) was able to qualify for the Season 3 Philippine Chess League’s quarter finals event, which will start on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at 8:00 P.M. via the lichess platform.
They earned the right to represent the Group B bracket with Chessmis TV after a long month of elimination in 8 episodes of team battle dubbed as the Mayor Sara Duterte Chess Online tournament with four (4) games of Chess Standard and four (4) games of Chess 960 last April 8 to May 8, 2022.

Other team qualifiers that complete the magic eight teams among the 22 competing teams are Costbusters, Durianburg Warriors, PFCC Wild Knights, Edmonton Oilers, Surigao Diamond Knights and MindMovers Phils.

According to Team Coach Benjamin Bauto, “Our training paid off since even though we are new in this league, we were able to attain our goal”.

The NECK players are led by 2019 World’s random 960 1st Qualifier Stage Champion Catrihino Pestaňo, Arena FIDE Master Gener Subia, Candidate Master Arjie Bayangat, former NCAA’s top caliber players and medalists Jet Curioso and Jhoemar Mendiogarin, Palarong Pambansa and National PRISAA Medalists Russell Velasquez, Zomer Amir, Alfredo Sarmiento Jr., Christian Paulite, Spencer Real, Lian Romantico & Grace Bakingkito and Nueva Ecija Champions Leonardo Navarro and Eduardo Lacson. Other members of the Nueva Ecija Chess Knights are former and present school varsity players and winners such as Anthony Kim Cabacungan, Juanito Guerrero, Hareve James Sumatra, Joshua Navarro, Era Bauto, Chelsie Angeli Amir, Chessica Fiona Sadey, Mateo Rizal Valante and siblings Vhione Jasper and Vhiene Jander Ranoco.
The persons behind the success of the NECK team are their team manager Dominador David Dysangco and team owner Millicent Marie Subia.

The NECK will compete with Edmonton Oilers in 2 episodes (1 Chess Standard & 1 Chess 960) of quarterfinals elimination rounds starting this coming Sunday.
