
Ancheta powers Chessmis TV Chess Team

MANILA---David Ancheta's skillful endgame maneuvers powered the inaugural champion Chessmis TV Chess Team after the sixth episode of competitions in the Season 3 of the Philippine Chess League (PCL) dubbed as the Mayor Sara Duterte Chess Online tournament virtually held via Lichess platform last Sunday, May 1, 2022.
The 16-year-old Ancheta, 10th grader at Corpus Christi School in Cagayan de Oro City, scored 26 points to lead Chessmis TV Chess Team's 1,109-point output ahead of Nueva Ecija Chess Knights (1,108), Rising Phoenix Chess Academy (1,024), White Knights Chess Club Team "A" (723), TFCC Chess Movers (466) and PFCC Warlords (412) in Group B.
17-year-old Julian Rogello Labaja, 10th grader at Iligan City National High School also contributed 17 points for the Chessmis TV Chess Team supported by Philippine Chess God Father Billy Joe Ereno.
The dynamic duo are leading the way in the Youth Team Battle.
"David Ancheta's play was always razor-sharp, rational and brilliant,” said Billy Joe Ereno, team owner of Chessmis TV Chess Team.
Cleto Vasquez and Clement Valledor combined forces to notch 17 and 12, respectively in the Senior category while Ma.Arlene A. Antiquina Ablin scored 12 markers and Mikhaila Labaja tallied 6 points in the Female category.
Also delivering for the Chessmis TV Chess Team were Jason Salubre (22), John Cua (15), Anatoly Pascua (15), Junmark Baldesimo (14), Reynaldo Abaa (14), Julius Dan Augustine Ablin (9), Michael Tinga (8) and Kharl Manliguez (6) in the Pool A category.
On the other hand, Sherwin Tiu is showing the way in the Pool B category with 23 markers followed by Elizardo Rico Paslon (21), coach Jimmy Dano ( 21), Adrian Yulo (17), Lexis Portacion (17), Bobby Solomon (4) and Apollo Agapay (4).
The PCL Season 3 Chess online team tourney has a time control of 5 minutes where the players can play as many games within a one and a half-hour period according to Tournament Director Engr. Joel Anthony Hicap.
The top two teams in each group after a total of eight preliminary episodes will advance to the quarterfinals.
The score in the Youth Team Battle, Adult Team Battle, Senior Team Battle and Female Team Battle will combined all the total output to determined the overall team winners.-Marlon Bernardino-
