
PH teen bet Concio rules 1st Relampagos FIDE Chess Cup

MANILA---International Master Michael "Jako" Concio Jr. emerged champion in the 1st Relampagos FIDE Chess Cup was held recently at the Panabo Chess Park, Panabo City in Davao Del Norte.
Concio scored 7.5 points on 7 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss to rule the single round robin FIDE standard tournament.
“I just persisted in training and study,” said the 16-year-old Concio, a 11th grader at the Dasmarinas Integrated High School.
John Ray Batucan settled for second with 5.5 points.
National Master Macacana Macala, National Master Aglipay Oberio and National Master Henry Roger Lopez were tied at 3rd to 5th places with 5.0 points each.
National Master Alexander Lupian wound up sixth with 4.5 points.
Rounding up to the top 10 were seventh Fide Master Roel Abelgas (4.0 points), eight National Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca (3.5 points), ninth Woman National Master Jerlyn Mae San Diego (3.0 points) and tenth Arena Grandmaster Fletch Archer Arado (2.0 points).
The three day event, April 22, 23 and 24 is hosted by City Government of Panabo headed by it's Mayor Jose Relampagos and Atty. Janris Jay "Jigs" Relampagos and supported by Emmanuel Eva and Multicar applying the 60 minutes plus 30 seconds increment standard time control format.
