
Chess tourney set in Dipolog

MANILA---The 5th mayor Darel Dexter T. Uy P'gsalabuk Chess Cup is slated on May 14 and 15, 2022 at the Ground Floor, Museo Dipolog in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte.
It is a seven round Swiss system format applying 20 minutes plus 5 seconds increment being held celebrating the annual P'gsalabuk Festival.
"P'GSALABUK is a Subanen term that means “togetherness”. It is a celebration of the peaceful unity and myriad interplay of culture of the bi-people -the Christians, Muslims, and 'lumads'," said National Arbiter and Dipolog City Chess Association President Ronald Truno Solon.
Among the early entries in the Open category are Michel Jackson Ambuang, Fretz Balacy, Geronimo Romarate, Elvis Longjas, Reanald Bolingot and Jefferson Martinez of Dipolog City, Jezreel Lopez of Pagadian City and NM Alvin Alcala of Dumaguete City.
The Open champion will earn P20,000. The second placer will get P10,000, third P8,000, fourth P5,000 and fifth P3,000. Sixth to 10th placers will receive P1,000 each.
Special prizes worth P500 each for the top performers Elementary (12 under), High School (18 under), Female and Senior (60 and above).
There will be also an Open Age Group (10 under, 12 under 16 under and 20 under) on May 15.
The champion getting the lion share of P 3,000, the 2nd placer will bring home P2,000, 3rd P1,000, 4th P700 and 5th P500. 6th to 10th placers will pocket P300 each.
There will be a Cut-off date for the following categories:
20&Under-May 16, 2001, 16&Under-May 16, 2005, 12&Under-May 16, 2009 and 10&Under-May 16, 2011.
Age Group Locals will be seeing in action are Teodor Francis Mangubat, John Rhod Estrella and Kristan Estrella for the 20 and under; ACM Joemel Narzabal and Jillianne Jumalon for the 16 and under; Ranzeth Marco Magallanes for the 12 and under and Princess Rane Magallanes for the 10 and under.
Registration fee for the Open Category
Regular: P350, Dipolognon: P150 and DCCA Member: P100.
You may bring Chess Mats and Chess Clocks for the tournament. Players must bring valid ID.
Age-group players must bring School ID and PSA Birth Certificate. Must be a member of DCCA before the tournament starts to avail the discount.
