Orient Pacific Boxing Federation No. 12 super featherweight Rey Anton Olarte will move up to lightweight to fight Australia?s Lincoln Stewart at the Town Hall in Malvern, Melbourne on April 24.
Stewart who is managed and promoted by two-time ?Promoter of the Year? Peter Maniatis has a record of 14-3-1 with 12 knockouts and is a formidable opponent.
However, Maniatis in an email to Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today said ?I am sure Olarte will put up a good fight.? The well-known Australian promoter noted that Olarte ?fought a great fight recently against world-rated Thailander Somsak Sithchachawal over six rounds, so Olarte can fight.?
Plans call for the Filipino boxer to remain in Sydney after the fight and train under Dido Bohol whose current crop of fighters includes lightweight Ranee ?KO Kid? Ganoy, Dondon Sultan and Jun Paderna.
Maniatis said ?this is the first step in getting good Filipino boxers in action on my shows in Melbourne and I want to thank Dido for his support in bringing Olarte to Melbourne.?
The fights will be replayed on TV station Channel 31 on the popular boxing show hosted by Maniatis who visited the country some months ago.
