FM Suelo rules Barkadahan Open chess tourney

MANILA---Fide Master Robert Suelo Jr. topped the Barkadahan Open chess championship held at the Goldland Chess Club, Goldland Subdivision in Cainta, Rizal on Saturday, April 2, 2022.

Suelo, who is playing for the Quezon City Simba's Tribe in PCAP online chess tourney, posted the highest output of 6.0 points to take home the coveted title in the 1-day event, backed up by Barkadahan Para Sa Bansa Party list nominee Dr. Ariel Potot, Bayanihan Chess Club director Jimmy Reyes, Goldland Chess Club president Bong Buto and National Arbiter Avelino "Eli"Carredo.

"First of all I would like to thank God," Suelo said, an active member of the International Churches of Christ (ICOC) in Singapore.

"I'm happy to win again," added Suelo who also topped the Hon. Marvin C. Rillo Chess Cup was held at the Barangay Hall, Barangay San Martin De Porres in Cubao, Quezon City last March 21, 2022.

Levis Miranda placed second with 5.5 points followed by third placer National Master Oshrie Jhames Reyes and fourth placer National Master Al-Basher "Basty" Buto who totes 5.0 points apiece. The next two spots were occupied by Mar Aviel Carredo (4.5) and National Master Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr. (4).

Rounding up the top 17 were National Master Romeo Alcodia (3.5), Rohanisah Buto (3.5), Ernesto Macutay (3.5), Noel Jay Estacio (3.5), Abdul Rahman Buto (3.5), Mickayla Buto (3), Yaseen Macaslang (3), Phil Martin Casiguran (3), Jason Rojo (2.5), Vermount Casas (2) and Alysah Buto (2).-Marlon Bernardino-
