
NM Ivan Travis Cu Wins Asian Nations Cup Online U-14 Open Chess Team Championship - 2022

MANILA---National Master Ivan Travis Cu, 13 years old, a Grade 7 student of Xavier School, San Juan City, scored one of the biggest wins of his career by winning the individual gold medal at the top board of Asian Nations Cup Online U-14 Open Chess Team Championship - 2022 Sunday virtually held at Tornelo Platform.
The PH Knights number one player drew with Bat-Erdene Duurenkhishig of Mongolia in the last round to clinch clear first.
Cu’s big wins were against Ern Jie Anderson Ang of Malaysia (Round 1), G P Damsilu Desurra of Sri Lanka (Round 3), Thanneermalai Kannappan of Hongkong (Round 4), Sai Siddharth of Singapore (Round 5), Brunel Baron Burbach of Thailand (Round 7) and National Master Al-Basher Buto of the Philippines (Round 8).
He split the points with Shah Sankalan of India (Round 2). His only setback was at the hands of Rafael Sharon of India (Round 6).
Cu, together with Vincent Ryu Dimayuga, Tyrhhone James Tabernilla and Gabriel Ryan Paradero represented the PH Knights who ended up over-all 5th place in the team competition.
It shall be recalled that Cu finished second place in the Boys 12 and under of the Eastern Asia Youth Online Chess Championship held last October 1-3, 2021.-Marlon Bernardino-
