
PH finishes second in Asian Nations Cup Online U-14 Open Chess Team Championship - 2022

MANILA---The Philippine Chess Team A also known "Munting Agila" wound up second overall in the team competition of the prestigious Asian Nations Cup Online U-14 Open Chess Team Championship - 2022.
National Master Al-Basher Buto outlasted Yonal Sumanathilake in Board 1 while National Master Oshrie Jhames Reyes toppled S M M P Kulathilake in board 2 to power the Philippines to a 3-1 win over Sri Lanka Team B in the ninth and final round Sunday.
Phil Martin Casiguran and Pat Ferdolf Macabulos split their games to help the Filipinos at No. 2 with 16 match points, the same output of topnotcher India Team B, who trounced Singapore Open 2, 3.5-0.5.
Casiguran settled for a truce with D C B K Senevirathne in Board 3 while Macabulos drew with Chenitha Mithvidu Ovitigala in Board 4.
India grabbed the top spot with 26.5 tie break points better than runner-up place PH chess team who totes 24.5 points.
"New Rays of Hope for Philippines Chess shine in Asian Nations Cup Online Chess Championship Under 14," said Bayanihan Chess Club board of director Mr. Jimmy Reyes.
"Congratulations to Philippines Chess team A as also known "Munting Agila" for winning the Silver team award in the recently concluded "Asian Online Nations Cup Under -14 Team Championship 2022 by Asian Chess Federation (ACF) through Chess Federation of Sri Lanka," he added.
"The Munting Agila team are maybe younger in age and under rated at the starting rank list of the competition, but they are filled with burning determinations, Brave Hearth and Strong Faith to win. They are deserving to be recognized in Local & National level as they bring Honor & Glory to our beloved country ! Also they serve inspirations to all our Philippines Chess Players," last word of the Saudi Arabia based Reyes.
The 12 year old Buto, a Grade 6 pupil of Faith Christian School, Cainta Rizal won silver in Board 1. The 10 year old Reyes, a Grade 5 pupil of EZEE Guagua, Pampanga took gold in Board 2.
The 10 year old Casiguran, a Grade 5 pupil of Piety St. Joseph College of Novaliches, Inc. ranked number 9 in Board 3. The 10 year old Macabulos, a Grade 5 pupil of Mabatang Elem School in Bataan pocketed the gold in Board 4. Other member of the team is the 7 year old Prince Jhamie Reyes, a Grade 1 pupil of EZEE Guagua, Pampanga.
National Master Ivan Travis Cu, 13 years old, a Grade 7 student of Xavier School, San Juan City won the gold in Board 1. Cu together with Vincent Ryu Dimayuga, Tyrhhone James Tabernilla and Gabriel Ryan Paradero representing PH Knights who end up 5th place.
The tournament was organized by Asian Chess Federation (ACF), hosted by Chess Federation of Sri Lanka on March 25-27, 2022 via Tornelo platform. The said chess tournament was participated by 19 teams from various Asian countries: India, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Mongolia, Hongkong, New Zealand, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and Philippines.-Marlon Bernardino-
