
3rd Laguna Inter-Town Chess Team Championships for Cabuyao Junior Chess Team

MANILA---The Cabuyao Junior Chess Team edged the competition for a runaway victory in the Gov. Ramil L. Hernandez Cup 3rd Laguna Inter-Town Chess Team Championships held at the Laguna Sports Complex Basketball Gymnasium, Bubukal, Santa Cruz, Laguna last Sunday, March 13.
"The Cabuyao Junior Chess Team emerged on top as the Gov. Ramil L. Hernandez Cup 3rd Laguna Inter-Town Chess Team Championships concluded. The Team showed a strong start as they won all five (5) matches. We are thankful for all those who cheered and prayed for our success and most grateful for the people who helped and supported our quest for the title," said Cabuyao City Chess Club top honcho Arena Grandmaster Dr. Fred Paez, who is also one of the four co-team owner of the Laguna Heroes that include Mr. David Nithyananthan of KALARO, Engr. Benjamin Dy of SDC Global Choice and Engr. Jonathan Mamaril of Oregon, USA.
Aside from winning the championship in the team event, the Cabuyao players backed up by Mayor Mel Gecolea dominated the individual boards from Board 1, 2 and 4.
The following members of the team won their respective board assignments:
Jeremy Marticio (4.5 pts.) Board 1 – Gold, Jersey Marticio (5 pts.), Board 2 – Gold and Webster Lagera (5 pts.) Board 4 – Gold.
Rey Julius Taguba won Silver Medal in Board 3 after collecting 4 points. Christen Dei Reyes of Siniloan Junior Team won the Gold in Board 3 after tallying 4.5 points.
"The Inter-Town tournament is one of the priority tournaments of the Laguna Provincial Sports and Games Development Office in Partnership with Laguna Chess Association as it is participated in by cities and town in Laguna with topnotch chess programs like Cabuyao, San Pedro, Santa Rosa, Siniloan, Calamba, Pangil and Los Banos among others" said Laguna Chess Association President Richie Jocson.-Marlon Bernardino-
