
Cosbusters, Chessmis TV chessers a possible clash in PCL grand final

MANILA---The Cosbusters Philippines Corp. Chess Team and the defending champion Chessmis TV Chess Team arranged a possible mouth-watering title duel after topping their respective divisions Friday night in the five minutes plus two seconds increment blitz format of the Philippine Chess League (PCL) Season 2 virtual tournament held through Lichess Platform.
The Cosbusters Philippines Corp. Chess Team outlasted San Miguel Chess Association, 121-85 points, in the SemiFinals Open A Team Battle while the Chessmis TV Chess Team stunned the Surigao Diamond Portrait Knight Chess Team, 108-83 points, in the SemiFinals Open B Team Battle.
Adrian Esteva once again delivered the goods for Cosbusters, finishing with 16 points.
Arena Grandmaster Nezil Arj Merilles and Kevin Arquero added 15 and 14 markers, respectively.
Richie Jocson and Freddie Talaboc chipped in 13 points apiece while Josevito Tapulgo tallied 11 points.
Ronald Adaya, Fern Albert Falle, Nikoy Olvina and Ervil Villa scored 9 points each.
"It was a team effort. Huge congratulations to all our contestants and to lead coach Prince Allan Suliva, Co-Team Owner Engr. Jeson Bolando and Team Manager Jezreel Lopez," said Team Owner Billy Joe Ereno.
"We hope to perform well in the Fischer random chess, also known as Chess960 on March 13. This is the last event to determine the top 2 teams who will be playing in the PCL grand finals," added Ereno.
Siblings Kate and Ericka Ordizo of Cosbusters joined forces to top the Female Category with combined 14 points.
However, the tandem of Yosef Immanuel Morada and Keith Adriane Ilar of Cosbusters notched a total output of 12 points finish strong second place in the Kiddies Category to eventual winner Surigao bannered by James Catayas and Ran Zeth Marco Magallanes who totes total 16 points.
