The telecast of the ?Invasion: Philippines vs The World? telecast by the country?s pre-eminent broadcast network ABS-CBN turned in amazing ratings, effectively clobbering the competition last Sunday morning.

Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today learned that the initial ratings for Mega-Manila showed that the main event featuring WBO bantamweight champion Gerry Penalosa?s first title defense against former world champion Ratanachai Sor Vorapin registered a remarkably high 32.0 percent and in Metro Manila 33.3 percent at its peak.

The clash between WBO Oriental junior featherweight champion Ciso ?Kid Terrible? Morales and Yoo Shin Kim of South Korea showed surprising strength and rated 20.4 percent in Mega Manila and an even higher 22.3 percent for Metro Manila.

The IBF junior bantamweight eliminator for the No.1 spot between AJ ?Bazooka? Banal and Caril Herrera of Uruguay started with a 14.0 percent rating and moved up to 20.0 percent in Mega Manila while it kicked off with a 15.5 percent rating in Metro Manila and ended at 22.0 percent.

WBO Intercontinental super bantamweight champion Rey ?Boom Boom? Bautista once again demonstrated his following among fight fans when his battle with Mexico?s Genaro Camargo rated an excellent 23.7 percent and increased to 27.5 percent in Mega Manila while starting off with a 26.1 percent rating and ending with 29.8 percent in Metro Manila.

With the metered ratings figures in the boxing-crazy Visayas and Mindanao regions still to come in, the overall ratings for the "Invasion" telecast is bound to increase even further one again proving the popularity of the sport and the impact of ABS-CBN's coverage and its ability to deliver the ratings.
