Age-group chess set

MANILA---National Chess Federation of the Philippines starts its busy year by holding the Capampangan National Age-Group Chess Championships starting with the Central Luzon Leg set online.
Exclusive to NCFP members, the two-day leg opens with the boys and girls Under-10, U-12 and U-14 divisions on March 19, and the U-16 and U-18 categories the next day (March 20) using the Tornelo chess platform and the 10-minute, five-second increment time control.

The top 25 players in each category will advance in the National Age-Group semifinals in May and eventually the grand finals, which will be done over-the-board in July, assuming the pandemic situation improves.

National Chess Federation of the Philippines chief operating officer Grandmaster Jayson Gonzales tapped the service of national arbiter Jose Fernando Camaya, head coach of Mabalacat City College under the watchful eye of Mabalacat City College President Dr. Michelle Aguilar-Ong, who is also the President of Mabalacat City Chess Club in this event backed up by IDI trading and Construction in close cooperation with mayor Crisostomo Garbo, rep. Carmelo "Jon" Lazatin II and coun. Hans Christian Balingit.

"We hope to promote chess in the grass root level which aims to discover future chess talents," said Mabalacat City College coach Jose Fernando Camaya.

Among the early entries are National Master Oshrie Jhames Reyes, Woman National Master Lexie Grace Hernandez, Woman National Master Apri Joy Claros, Zoe Ramos, Louie Nisperos, Tiv Omangay and Gabrielle Ordiz Nuqui-Marlon Bernardino-
