
IM Quizon wins Falco Memorial Chess Tournament

MANILA--International Master Daniel Quizon of Dasmarinas City, Cavite pocketed the top honors in the 2nd Major Jose Falco Memorial Chess Tournament virtually held at Lichess Platform last March 3, 2022.
The 17-year-old Quizon collected twelve points on twelve wins and two loses to win the fourteen-round swiss system tournament, backed up by Cynthia Falco, organized by YCAW foundation headed by International Master Angelo Abundo Young in close cooperation with Daphne Dy and Francois Marie Magpily of Chess gaming duo, Dr. Jenny Mayor, Ted Castro, Nonoy Rafael and US master Florentino Inumerable.
It shall be recalled that Quizon is fresh from winning the Kamatyas Rapid Invitational Chess Championship (Over The Board) last February 19, 2022 held at MultiSys Headquarters Multinational Village in Paranaque City.
Quizon, playing under the banner of Rep. Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga Jr. and national coach Fide Master Roel Abelgas, also won the 2021 Philippine National Championship held at the Solea Hotel and Resort in Mactan, Cebu last December 14, 2021.
Mark Gerald Reyes of Rodriguez, Rizal placed second overall with 11.5 points on ten wins, three draws and one loss.
Samson "Chin" Lim of Quezon City, National Master Eric Labog Jr. of Solano, Nueva Vizcaya and Rommel Ganzon of Cebu were tied at 3rd to 5th with 11.0 points each.
Rounding up to the top ten (10) are Jan Clifford Labog of Solano, Nueva Vizcaya (sixth, 10.5 points), International Master Ronald Dableo of Manila (seventh, 10.5 points), National Master Jerish Velarde of Cebu (eight, 10 points), National Master Henry Roger Lopez of Panabo City, Davao del Norte (ninth, 10 points) and Ariel Santander of Trece Martires, Cavite (tenth, 10 points).-Marlon Bernardino-
