Barbero ousted

MANILA---Alvin Barbero of the Philippines was sent home packing after bowing down to Harvey Chandler of England, 0-3, in the round of 128 knockout stage of the 2022 World Snooker Federation Open Championship at the state-of-the-art Ding Junhui Snooker Academy in Sheffield, England on Thursday.

"Malas talaga, hindi pumapabor yung bola sa akin," said the 37-year-old Barbero from Barangay Plainview, Mandaluyong City.

With the win, Chandler will meet Michael White of Scotland in the round of 64, who brought down countryman Carl Bennett, 3-0.

Barbero cruised through the knockout stage after whipping Isa Ishtiaq of England, 3-1, then won by default over Lhabouze Guillaume of Belgium in the following round.

Leading by 2-0 in this race 3, alternate breaks format, Barbero yielded to Tyleer Rees of Wales, 3-2, in the opening round last Sunday.

Barbero, 2019 Manila Southeast Asian Games silver medalist, finished the group stage elimination round with 2-1 win-loss record.

At stake in the week-long event a total pot prize of 17,750 British pound sterling with the champion getting the lion's share of 7,500 British pound sterling.
