
GM Antonio banners FIDE rated rapid over the board chess tourney

MANILA---13-time Philippine Open Champion Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. (Elo rapid 2426) is eyeing another chess title.
Antonio, 59, will lead the six-player cast in the two-day Fide rated rapid over the board chess tournament scheduled on Feb. 28 and March 1, 2022 at the Philippine Academy for Chess Excellence (PACE) headquarters in Project 6, Quezon City.
“It is always an honor to be given a chance to play in this tough FIDE rated rapid over the board chess tournament," said Antonio.
There, the Quezon City resident chesser will play GM Darwin Laylo (Elo rapid 2337), WGM Janelle Mae Frayna (Elo rapid 2104), IM Paulo Bersamina (Elo rapid 2286), IM Ricardo de Guzman (Elo rapid 2261) and IM Angelo Young (Elo rapid 2204).
Organized and sponsored by Bayanihan Chess Club headed by it's co-founding chairman Dr. Joe Balinas, Engr. Antonio Balinas and GM Balinas Family in close cooperation with the Philippine Academy for Chess Excellence (PACE) and the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) being held coincide the 109 Birthday of Rosendo Padilla Balinas Sr.
Rosendo Sr. is the father of Dr. Joe, Engr. Antonio and GM and Atty. Rosendo Balinas Jr.
A total pot prize of P27,000, offers P10,000 to the champion, the second placer will get P5,000 while the third to sixth will earn P3,000 each.
Tournament Director is Bayanihan Chess Club president NM Marlon Bernardino while Chief Arbiter is IA Reden Cruz.-Marlon Bernardino-
