
Nadera, De Guzman, Ramayrat among the favorites in the Sen.Koko Pimentel Thanksgiving Online Chess Tournament

MANILA, Philippines---International Master Barlo Nadera of Mandaue City, International Master Ricardo De Guzman of Cainta, Rizal and International Master Cris Ramayrat Jr. of Pasig City are among the favorites in the Sen. Koko Pimentel Thanksgiving Online Chess Tournament on January 20, 2022 at 7pm virtually held at Lichess.com Platform.
Also playing are Fide Master Nelson "Elo" Mariano III of Bacoor City, Cavite, Woman Fide Master Allaney Jia Doroy of Quezon City and Woman Fide Master Cherry Ann Mejia of Taguig City.
Others are National Master Mario Mangubat of Cebu City, National Master Glennen Artuz of Naga City and National Master Ronald Llavanes of Angeles City, Pampanga.
"To give Filipino chess players an online activity, to enjoy chess in this time of pandemic," said Sen. Aquilino Martin "Koko" de la Llana Pimentel III, former top player of Cagayan de Oro City chess team who will turn 58 on January 20.
According to International Arbiter and National Master Elias Lao Jr. the time control format is 5 minutes plus 3 seconds increment using 9 Rounds Swiss System in this 1-day Free Registration online tournament.
The champion will earn P8,000. The second placer will get P4,000 while the third placer will bring home P3,000.
Fourth to eight places will receive P1,000 each.
Special prizes for the top performer in the Seniors 55 and above, Female, Elementary, Highschool and College.
