PLAYING true to form, Joven Polsotin defeated co-leader Zael Monzales in the final round to become the inaugural champion of the recent Barkadahan Open chess tournament in Legaspi City, Albay.
With the crucial win, Polsotin finished with 6.5 points in 7 rounds of rapid chess (15 minutes time control) to win the said chessfest, organized by Magayon Chess Club and supported by Atty. Nolan V. Banda and Dr. Ariel B. Potot of Barkadahan Para sa Bansa Party list.
National Master Carlo Lorena toppled Rodel Saculo to settle for solo second place with 6 points.
Monzales, meantime was stuck at 5.5 points to share third to fourth places with James Ryan Fernandez.
Rounding up to the top 10 are Harold Alianza (5th), Marlon Lumberio (6th), Rodel Saculo (7th), Levy Belaro (8th), Philip Denise Cano (9th) and Jeffrey Vegas (10th).
