"OJ" Reyes dominates "OTB" rapid chess tourney

CAINTA, Rizal---National Master Oshrie Jhames “OJ” Constantino Reyes of Santa Rita, Pampanga dominated the over the board (otb) rapid chess tournament was held at the Goldland Chess Club, Village East Executive Homes in Cainta, Rizal Thursday, December 30, 2021.

The 10-year-old Reyes, a Grade 5 student of EZEE, Guagua, Pampanga performed with 8 points out of the possible nine in the 10-player field, single round robin format using the time control of 10 minutes play to finish.

"I want to show through my actions that athletic excellence can be achieved with dedication, hard-work and support," said Reyes, whose local and international chess tournaments would not be possible without the undying support of Pampanga Governor Dennis "Delta Pineda, Pampanga Vice- Governor Lilia "Nanay" Pineda and Pampanga 2nd district Board Member Fritzie David-Dizon.

11-year-old National Master Al Basher "Basty" Buto, a Grade 6 student of Faith Christian School in Cainta, placed second with 7 points while Noel Jay "Super B" Estacio of San Dionisio, Iloilo came in third with 6 points.

Sharing the fourth to fifth places with 5.5 points each are National Master Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr. of Quezon City and Rohanisah Buto of Cainta, Rizal.

Rounding up to the ten (10) are Mar Aviel Carredo of Quezon City (sixth), Abdul Buto of Cainta, Rizal (seventh), Levis Miranda (eight), Prince Reyes (ninth) and Jimmy Reyes of Santa Rita, Pampanga(tenth).

Meanwhile, Candidate Master Genghis Imperial of Manila topped the five minutes blitz format.

Chief Arbiter is NA Avelino "Ka Eli" Carredo and supervising / tournament Director is Mr. Bong Buto.-Marlon Bernardino-
