MANILA---Woman Grandmaster Janelle Mae Frayna defeated Woman National Master Rinoa Mariel Sadey to keep her full-point lead intact with two rounds left in the 2021 Philippine National Women’s Chess Championship at the PACE building in Quezon City on Wednesday.
The top-seeded, 24-year-old Frayna outwitted Sadey in 28 moves of French defense in the ninth round to keep her grip of the lead with seven points. Earlier, Frayna beat Marian Calimbo in 36 moves of King’s Indian skirmish in the eight round.
Frayna's last 2 rounds opponent is 2019 titlist Woman International Master Jan Jodilyn Fronda and Woman Fide Master Shania Mae Mendoza.
Woman International Master Kylene Joy Mordido toppled Woman Fide Master Allaney Jia Doroy in 45 moves of another King's Indian defense to raise her total 6 points, the same output of Mendoza and Fronda.
Mendoza toppled Woman International Master Bernadette Galas in 43 moves of Sicialin defense, Rossolimo Attack variation while Fronda split the point with Woman National Master Ruelle Canino in 65 moves of London System Opening.
In other ninth round results, Woman National Master Francois Marie Magpily bested Woman National Master Lexie Grace Hernandez in 62 moves of anther London System Opening while Calimbo bounced back after crushing Woman International Master Marie Antoinette San Diego in 34 moves of London System Opening, Jobava System.
