Celebrated trainer Freddie Roach failed to board his flight to
Manila on Thursday in the US because he discovered all too late that his passport had expired according to Dyan Castillejo of ABS-CBN.

The well-known host of Sports Unlimited and widely traveled boxing reporter of the giant broadcast network said she had spoken to Roach who said he was rushing to get his passport renewed in time to catch a flight that will see him arrive in Manila Sunday morning, just a couple of hours before the WBO bantamweight title defense of Gerry Penalosa against former champion Ratanachai Sor Vorapin.

Roach had earlier planned to work Penalosa's corner and later Sunday take a return flight to the US.

Roach is in the midst of training Bernard Hopkins hence the need for a quick trip back after the Penalosa title fight.
