Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says he is ?doing contracts now? for Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao?s scheduled title fight against WBC lightweight champion David Diaz at the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel and Casino on June 28.
In an overseas telephone conversation with Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today, Arum said that after the Diaz fight ?gets by then we will go to Macau? for Pacquiao?s next fight.
Arum said everything will depend on how Pacquiao performs at the higher weight ?because if he wins he will have 15 days to decide on which title to hold.? Pacquiao won the WBC super featherweight title last March 15 by a split decision over Mexico?s Juan Manuel Marquez.
At the same time Arum said Marquez was out of the reckoning ?for now? despite the request by the Mexican?s camp for a rematch. He said there are other guys for Marquez to fight and ?when the time is right we?ll do a rematch.? Arum said there is nothing very much Pacquiao can accomplish fighting Marquez again so soon. He said ?it's and interesting fight. Hey had two good fights and Manny beats him again so what??
Arum said he was pleased that the nasty cut suffered by Pacquiao in the Marquez fight was healing very well which meant there would be no need to postpone the Diaz fight for a later date.
