MANILA---Boxing legend Sen. Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao yielded twice (2-0) to Billiard champion Efren "Bata" Reyes in a friendly over the board chess match held at the famous Billiard Hall in Talumpong Street, Barangay Malamig in Mandaluyong City on Monday (October 25, 2021).
"Chess-toric moment only in the Philippines. World's only 8 Division Boxing Title Holder, Manny Pacquiao and World's greatest billiard player, Efren "Bata" Reyes belt it out - not in their respective fields - but in the 64-square Royal Game (Chess)," said Sydney, Australia based Ronald Manila, a close confidante of Sen. Koko Pimentel who watch the game live thru Facebook.
It shall be recalled that Pacquiao lasted 41 moves before being checkmated by the 10-year-old version of Magnus Carlsen in the Celebrity Charity Challenge match, which served as a side event to the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour finals last October 1.
Before the Chess-toric moment, Pacquiao defeated Reyes in a friendly billiard match but succumb to another World Billiard ruler Francisco "Django" Bustamante.
International Billiards and Snooker Champion Marlon Manalo, 1st district councilor Mariz Manalo and Barangay chairman Cynthia Caluya hosted the said event.
Meanwhile, the newly formed United Cue Artists Association of the Philippines (UCAAP) headed by it's founding president Marlon Manalo, secretary general Edgar Acaba, Efren "Bata" Reyes, Francisco "Django" Bustamante alongside Antonio "Nickoy" Lining and Roel Esquillo pledged their support for the boxing icon’s presidential run in 2022.
“I am grateful to the world’s greatest and billiards legends Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes and Django Bustamante for expressing their support in my fight for the presidency,” said Pacquiao.
"It is an honor to be with the likes of Reyes and Bustamante in my vision to transform our country into a progressive, modern and corrupt-free nation."
"We will make sure that we continue to help our athletes even in our own capacity. Long live the Filipino athletes."
Last October 1, Pacquiao filed his certificate of candidacy for president under the Probinsya Muna Development Initiative or Promdi, one of the political organizations under the MP3 Alliance.-Marlon Bernardino-
