Laguna racks four straight wins in PCAP

MANILA, Philippines---The Laguna Heroes posted a 17-4 victory at the expense of the Palawan Queen's Gambit on Saturday night, October 9, 2021 in the third conference Professional Chess Association of the Philippines virtually held at Chess.com Platform.

Backed up by Greatech Philippines, Inc., SDC Global Choice, Jolly Smile Dental Clinic, KALARO and Rotary Club of Nuvali, the Laguna Heroes easily defeated the Palawan Queen's Gambit in blitz game behind wins by 2-time Asian Junior champion Grandmaster Rogelio "Banjo" Barcenilla Jr., Fide Master Austin Jacob Literatus, Fide Master Jose Efren Bagamasbad, Grandmaster John Paul Gomez and Vince Angelo Medina.

The team continued their winning streak against the Queen's Gambit as they dominated the rapid play behind Barcenilla, Literatus, Bagamasbad, Gomez, Medina and Kimuel Aaron Lorenzo.
With the win, Laguna racks four straight win to create a four-way tie in the Northern Division that includes San Juan, Pasig and Manila.

"We are happy for having a fine start in the 2nd round. Scoring 4 straight wins is a big motivation to us," said Arena Grandmaster Dr. Fred Paez, one of the four co-team owner of the Laguna Heroes that include Mr. David Nithyananthan of KALARO, Engr. Benjamin Dy of SDC Global Choice and Engr. Jonathan Mamaril of Oregon, USA.

Earlier, Laguna toppled Surigao, 13.5-7.5, while Palawan yielded to Pasig, 2.5-18.5.

Meanwhile, Singapore and Paralympics share the lead in the Southern Division with undefeated record four straight wins.-Marlon Bernardino-
