N1 Chess: NM Gutierrez leads IIEE Bulacan for their 2nd win in a row

MANILA, Philippines---On the 2nd round of the N1 IIEE National Chess Olympiad, Bulacan has 3 players scoring perfect 8 of 8 games led by NM Dennis Gutierrez to beat IIEE Metro East 24-8 in bracket C. In other matches in this bracket, Apollo Zantua was unbeaten in 4 games as his Metro West edged La Union 17-15. Analyn Cueto and Vincent Palmiery has 6 points apiece for Southern Tagalog to nip Bahrain 19-13.

Bracket A: IIEE Cagayan de oro drubbed Metro South 18-14 with 6 points contribution from CDO Jemuel Calo; Chester Concordia lead Southern Laguna’s balance attack winning 20-12 against Iloilo; Ravel Canlas team Northern Cavite has balance scoring in 19-13 win over Central Region Chapter Saudi Arabia.

Bracket B: With Julian Paul Querubin perfect 8, IIEE Visayas nips Camarines 17-5; IIEE Metro Central drubbed Abu Dhabi-UAE 30-2; Southwest Minadanao beats Cebu 14-10 with 6 points from Enrique Nagallo.

Bracket D: Glenn Zenarosa perfect games gives Western Region Chapter Saudi Arabia resulted to 19-13 beating of Metro North; 7 points of Julius Ampo leads Singapore 20-12 against Eastern Region Chapter Saudi Arabia; Bataan beat undermanned Central Laguna 22-10.

For the Regional Team battle: Northern Region defeated Southern Luzon Region 49-32; Metro Manila Region beat Southwest Mindanao 40-18; Eastern Central Visayas blasted Central Luzon 39-22; Western Visayas Region toppled Foreign Region 42-38 and Northern Mindanao edged Bicol Region in this event supported by Sercs and Solicar Construction.-Marlon Bernardino-
