Manny Pacquiao Still Rated High by the Ring, Nine Other Pinoy Fighters Make the Ratings

Despite losing by a unanimous decision to current WBA welterweight super champion Yurdenis Ugas of Cuba, former titlist Manny Pacquiao still keeps his lofty ranking in the latest Ring Magazine ratings.
Pacquiao, the only boxer to win eight world championships in as many weight divisions including three times as WBO welterweight champion and once as WBA welterweight super titleholder, is rated number five in the Ring divisional rankings.
WBC and IBF unified titlist Errol Spence, who Pacquiao was supposed to meet in August if not for a late discovered eye injury, is rated number one, followed by WBO champion Terrence Crawford, Ugas and former two time titlist Shawn Porter at #2, #3 and #4 respectively.
The Ring Magazine welterweight title remains vacant since the retirement of Floyd Mayweather in 2015. Its rule stipulates that the #1 should meet #2 or at least the #3 to fill up the vacancy. That did not happen when #1 Spence backed out of the fight against then #3 Pacquiao last month.
Crawford and Porter are reported to fight this November with the winner potentially to face Spence later for the Ring lineal world championship if Spence and Ugas would not meet first.
Oddly, Crawford is consistently rated by the Ring Magazine higher than Spence in its best pound for pound boxers listing topped by Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez, coming in at #3 compared to Spence who is at #6.
Meanwhile nine other Filipino fighters made it to the Ring divisional rankings with WBC titlist Nonito Donaire and WBO champion Johnriel Casimero coming in at #1 and #2 respectively at bantamweight to Ring Magazine recognized lineal world champion and Ring #3 pound for pound best boxer Naoya Inoue of Japan.
The other Pinoys in the Ring ratings included WBC regular titlist Vic Saludar, current IBF champion Rene Cuarto, former IBF titleholder Pedro Taduran and Melvin Jerusalem who are rated #5, #6, #7 and #10 in that order at minimumweight. Three Thai fighters topped the ranking: WBA super champion Thamanoon Niyomtrong, new WBC titlist Panya Prabsdri and former long reigning WBC ruler Wanheng Menayothin. Current WBO champion Wilfredo Mendez of Puerto Rico who won the title from Saludar last year is rated #4.
There are no rated Pinoys at light flyweight and flyweight.
Long reigning IBF champion Jerwin Ancajas and former multi division world titlist Donnie Nietes made it as #5 and #7 at super flyweight where WBC and WBA unified titleholder Juan Francisco Estrada of Mexico is the Ring Magazine lineal world champion.
Rated higher by the Ring at 115 lbs class are former WBC titlist Srisaket Sor Rungvusai of Thailand, former two time champion Roman Gonzalez, former WBC titleholder Carlos Cuadras of Mexico and current WBO champion Kazuto Ioka of Japan.
Oddly, Ioka is the only super flyweight rated by the Ring in its best pound for pound fighter at #10.
No Filipino fighter made it in the Ring rankings at super bantamweight topped by WBC and IBF unified champion Morudjon Akhmadaliev of Uzbekistan and WBA titlist Brandon Figueroa of the USA.
Mark Magsayo, the WBC mandatory challenger and new WBO international featherweight champion is the only other Ring rated Filipino fighter coming in at #5 at featherweight topped by WBO champion Emanuel Navarette of Mexico.
The Ring removed from its latest ranking WBC featherweight champion Gary Russell for inactivity and WBC super featherweight titlist Oscar Valdez for testing positive of banned substance.
