
Reyes, Omangay face tough competition in PCAP chess league

MANILA, Philippines---National Master Oshrie Jhames Constantino Reyes and Tiv Omangay are expecting a rough sailing in the third conference Professional Chess Players Association of the Philippines-PCAP online chess tournament where they will be meeting a tough line of competitors gets underway on September 15, 2021 virtually held at Chess.com platform.
“It will be a very tough match against Pinoy and Foreign woodpushers," said the 10-year-old Reyes, an incoming grade 5 student of EZEE, Guagua, Pampanga who became the country's youngest National Master at the age 9 after winning the 2021 National Age Group Hybrid Chess Championships Grandfinals Under-10 division held online via the Tornelo platform from June 26 to June 29, 2021.
“We are expecting tough matches but we will try our best,” added the 15-year-old Omangay, a Grade 10 student of Dr. Clemente N. Dayrit Sr. Memorial High School.
Other Pampangueño woodpushers playing for the invited guest Pampanga Checkers squad are Lexie Grace Hernandez, April Joy Claros, Christian Erickson Costuna, Gabrielle Nuqui, Joseph Raphael Vergara and Karl Richard Ballobar.
Backed up by Mr. Jaime "Jimmy" Reyes and Mr. Jake "Talov" Carlos, the Pampanga Checkers squad also tapped the service of Mr. Martin Tan (Head Senior), Mr. Robert Halili (Coach), NM Louie Pablo (Coach) and Mr. Archimedes Miranda de Leon (Team Manager).
"I am so happy to be part of our young talented Chess Players in Pampanga that are scheduled to compete this coming 3rd PCAP Conference next Month" said Team Manager Archimedes Miranda de Leon.
