
GAB Lists Forty Pinoy Boxers in World Ratings

The Games and Amusement Board (GAB) yesterday released a listing as of July 2021 showing a grand total of forty Filipino boxers including six recognized as champions in the latest world rankings of the four major sanctioning bodies namely: WBC, WBA, IBF and the WBO.
Heading the list are Johnriel Casimero and Nonito Donaire, regular world champions in the bantamweight respectively of the WBO and WBC, Jerwin Ancajas, IBF world super flyweight titlist, IBF world minimumweight champion Rene Cuarto and WBA secondary minimumweight titleholder Vic Saludar. Manny Pacquiao is then still listed as champion in recess of the WBA at welterweight.
As in previous world ratings, most of the rated Filipino fighters are at minimumweight with 12 led by world titlists Cuarto and Saludar and followed by ranked contenders ex IBF titlist Pedro Taduran, Melvin Jerusalem, Robert Paradero, Ar Ar Andales, Samuel Salva, Lito Dante, Mark John Rementizo, Clyde Azarcon, Toto Landero and Jonathan Almacen who are rated by the various boxing bodies.
There are five rated Filipinos at light flyweight namely Mark Vicelles and Edward Heno who are rated #5 and #7 at WBC, Christian Araneta, Jaysever Abcede and Arvin Magramo.
Six Filipinos are rated at flyweight: Geimel Magramo, Jayson Mama, Genesis Libranza, JR Raquianel, Jonathan Taconing and Dave Apolinario. Jayson Mama is set to challenge for the world title in the division against WBO champion Sunny Edward of the UK in September.
The super flyweight has Ancajas as the long reigning IBF world champion and Donnie Nietes, KJ Cataraja and Jade Bornea as ranked contenders.
Donaire and Casimero reign as world champions at bantamweight with Michael Dasmarinas, Aston Palicte and Vincent Astrolabio as rated contenders in certain world bodies.
There are five Filipino fighters rated at super bantamweight namely Mike Plania, Jeo Santissima, Marlon Tapales, Albert Pagara and the popular Carl Jammes Marin.
Mark Magsayo and Joe Noynay are the lone Filipinos rated at featherweight and super featherweight with Magsayo soon to be the WBC title mandatory challenger after also winning the WBO international championship via 10th round knockout of Mexican former titlist Julio Ceja.
Pacquiao is the lone Filipino listed at welterweight as WBA champion in recess and WBC #2, I.e. before his recent losing fight versus Cuban super titlist Yordenis Ugas.
